For DHH children, play often reveals language knowledge that isn’t yet accessible through speech or sign. Observing how play and language align—or don’t—helps clinicians and educators to avoid underestimating cognition, target intervention appropriately, and distinguish access issues from developmental delays. Use this tool to examine the relationship between a child's play and language.   

 This tool supports early intervention providers in reflecting on their use of affirming, family-centered language. It is not an evaluation form—it’s a self-guided reflection tool to promote awareness, growth, and intentional use of affirming language during parent coaching interactions.
